The activities of the Research Executive Agency were put under the spotlight in October’s edition of the COST Seminar.
Graham Stroud, Director of the Research Executive Agency (REA) explained how the agency is evaluating proposals and managing projects for a large part of the current research framework programme.
Created by Commission decision, Executive agencies are set up in line with a Council regulation. They take on an operational role implementing Commission programmes only.
Located in Brussels, the REA has a budget of € 6.5 billion. It will last until 2017, supporting projects under FP7. Major tasks include managing the Marie Curie fellowships, specific research grant agreements for the benefit of SMEs, multi-partner projects in space and security research.
The agency also acts as a "one-stop shop" helpdesk for enquiries about FP7. It provides “horizontal” services across the three specific programmes Cooperation, People, Capacities.
