COST was a partner of the fourth European Innovation Summit held at the European Parliament in Brussels under the motto 'Building bridges – Creating Synergies'.
This year’s debates related to policies relevant for innovation that are currently under review by the European Parliament, including Horizon2020, Cohesion Policy, COSME and the MFF.
The summit featured an opening reception with Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science, several thematic sessions throughout two days, breakfasts, lunches and dinner debates, as well as an exhibition.
Dr Ángeles Rodríguez-Peña, COST CSO President, spoke during the session 'The Role of Science & Technology in Support of Innovation' on Wednesday 10 October 2012. She explained how COST's concepts of knowledge networks (aka COST Actions); openness and fresh ideas contribute to raising the level of excellence in Europe’s science base and therefore contributed to Europe's innovation performance. The panel was hosted by Britta Thomsen MEP and fellow panelists represented the European Parliament, the Joint Research Centre, EUREKA and IEEE.
The summit brought together 500 stakeholders in a series of heated debates on how to improve the innovation eco-system in Europe. Participants largely agreed that, given their potential as a major driver of jobs and growth, the relevant EU policies and programmes in support of innovation ought to be adapted.
The highlight video of the event is now available as well as an outcome booklet. For more information, please visit the conference website.
