GraphITA 2011: Selected papers from the Workshop on Fundamentals and Applications of Graphene

In recent years, graphene based research has witnessed a tremendous explosion. This two dimensional “dream” material has come into the main spotlight of fundamental and applied research in diverse nano-science fields, but surprisingly rapidly, it has also attracted the interest of major stakeholders in the private sector (especially industries in the ICT sector). The technological exploitation of graphene can be considered to be based on four fundamental interconnected wide topics: growth and synthesis methods, nano-structuring and tailoring of graphene properties, structural and physical characterization, and device design and applications.

Cognitive Radio and Networking for Heterogeneous Wireless Networks - Recent Advances and Visions for the Future

2015 | Action IC0902
  • Pages: 405
  • Author(s): Di Benedetto, M.-G., Cattoni, A., Fiorina, J., Bader, F., De Nardis, L. (Eds.)
  • Publisher(s): Springer

This book, written by leading experts from academia and industry, offers a condensed overview on hot topics among the Cognitive Radios and Networks scientific and industrial communities (including those considered within the framework of the European COST Action IC0902) and presents exciting visions for the future. Examples of the subjects considered include the design of new filter bank-based air interfaces for spectrum sharing, medium access control design protocols, the design of cloud-based radio access networks, an evolutionary vision for the development and deployment of cognitive TCP/IP, and regulations relevant to the development of a spectrum sharing market. The concluding chapter comprises a practical, hands-on tutorial for those interested in developing their own research test beds. By focusing on the most recent advances and future avenues, this book will assist researchers in understanding the current issues and solutions in Cognitive Radios and Networks designs.

Measuring and Analysing the Directional Spectra of Ocean Waves - Working Group 3

2005 | Action 714

COST action 714, supported by the European Commission, had the objective to promote the development of measurement techniques and the use of directional wave measurements. The action was launched in 1996, and, in the end, representatives of ten European countries (Belgium, Finland, France, Italy, Germany, The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain and of the United Kingdom) participated in it.

Within the action a working group was created with the title Intercomparisons of Spectral Properties of Surface Waves for the purpose of improving the understanding of measurement techniques, methods of analysis, and comparisons between different instruments.

Anthropod-pathogenic: Entomophthorales: Biology, Ecology, Identification

2007 | Action 842

The aim of COST Action 842 was to promote research on entomopathogenic fungi in the order of the Entomophthorales. A seperate working group also focused on the development of biological methods to control pest insects and mites feeding on stored products. The booklet provides an overview on this interesting and biologically and economically important group of fungi.
