The main objective of the Action is to develop a more rigorous understanding of the conditions under which the process of growing unsustainable transport demand could be reversed, by changing travelers’, shippers’ and carriers’ behavior.
The Working Group 1 is devoted to freight transport and energy consumption.
This book covers the communications presented during a meeting held in Madrid in May 2007 and focusing on abatement measueres for the freight transport sectors.

COST Action 269 belongs to the domain Telecommunications and Information Science and Technology. Its main objectives were to study and analyse ICT usage and users, with emphasis on communication, in order to increase knowledge on how and why a person incorporates or rejects ICT products and services into his/her daily life. COST Action 269 offered a unique opportunity for European scientists, without regard to any particular discipline, to participate in open research of user aspects of ICTs. Disciplined ranging from technology to sociology were represented.

Use of Radar Observation in Hydrological and NWP Models: Weather Radar Data Quality in Europe Quality Control and Characterisation - A Review

2005 | Action 717

COST Action 717 produced extensive reviews on the use of radar data in hydrological and NWP models, evaluated the use of radar data in hydrological models, demonstrated the value of radar data in NWP model validation and verification, and evaluated and developed techniques for radar data assimilation. Indeed, assimilation of radar winds and precipitation estimates has received notable attention in recent years and will play an important role in the next generation of NWP models. On the other hand, more initiatives are needed in order to enhance the use of both radar and NWP in operational hydrology. Consequently, Action 731, which is focused more on the quality and uncertainty of meteorological observations, along with their impacts on hydro-meteorological outputs from advanced forecast systems.
The Action has also strongly contributed to the genesis of an ongoing series of European Conferences on Radar Meteorology, which was one of the main channels for the dissemination of its results.
