The strategic Group on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (NanoTech) was established by the COST Senior Officials Committee at its 153rd meeting on 10 – 11 April 2003 for a period of one year. The NanoTech group is mandated to provide a strategy of COST interests in the multidisciplinary field of Nanoscience and nanotechnologies within the European Research Area (ERA).
The group is composed of 12 experts selected from a list of experts provided by the national coordinators of the European member countries and is assisted by representatives from the European Commission and other COST TCs. It succeeds the previous NanoSTAG committee equally established by CSO.

This volume brings together, through a peer-revision process, the advanced research results obtained by the European COST Action 2102: “Cross Modal Analysis of Verbal and Nonverbal Communication”. The research published in this book was discussed for the first time at the 3rd jointly EUCOGII-COST 2102 International Training School on “Towards Autonomous, Adaptive, and Context-Aware Multimodal Interfaces: Theoretical and Practical Issues ” held in Caserta, Italy, March 15-19, 2010.
