Congress on Cultural Ecosystem Services and Biocultural Heritage

The Congress on Cultural Ecosystem Services and Biocultural Heritage: Connecting Nature and Culture for a Sustainable Future will take place on May 20-21, 2025, at the University of Coimbra as part of a broader initiative co-organized by JPI Climate, JPI Cultural Heritage, the Centre for Functional Ecology at the University of Coimbra, with the ‘patronage’ of the UNESCO MAB Programme.

Set against the backdrop of the 20th anniversary of the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment and the recent UN Pact for the Future, this congress aims to foster an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary dialogue between natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, and policymakers.

The event will bring together keynote speakers, researchers, practitioners, and community representatives to discuss innovative approaches to integrating cultural heritage, biodiversity conservation, and sustainability.
