COST is an intergovernmental framework consisting of 41 Full Members, 1 Cooperating Member and 1 Partner Member. The 41 COST Full Member countries govern COST via their representatives in the COST Committee of Senior Officials (CSO) – the General Assembly of the COST Association.
This allows researchers from these countries to embark upon networking opportunities by participating in science and technology networks called COST Actions.
Choose a country in the list below for an overview of the Country National Coordinators (CNC), Action participation and Action Chairs for each Member. A full list of all CSO delegates is available here.

South Africa, as a COST Partner Member, has developed the COST seed funding mechanism allowing its researchers and innovators to benefit the COST Actions.
The Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) can provide seed funding for the travel costs of South African researchers traveling to Europe. Information on the application process, conditions and eligibility of funding is available here
Please note that DSI will transfer the travel funds to the applicant’s institution for all of its funding instruments established to support SA’s participation in the European Union funded programmes. It is important for applicants to submit applications six weeks before the planned activity to have enough time to process and arrange payment.
