35 new Actions to start end 2017

Approved by the COST Committee of Senior Officials on 23 June 2017, the new Actions were selected out of 454 eligible proposals collected on 7 December 2016.

Prof. Dr Sierd Cloetingh takes office as President of the COST Association

After his appointment as COST President in April, Prof Dr Sierd Cloetingh is officially starting his mandate today. As COST President, he will chair the COST general assembly, known as the COST Committee of Senior Officials (CSO). He will be leading the strategic development of the COST Association.

COST multidisciplinary European research networks are key to FP9

On 15 June, the COST Committee of Senior Officials (CSO) published its position paper, highlighting the importance of multidisciplinary, bottom-up, open and inclusive networks, pleading for sufficient funding post Horizon 2020.

COST Director Ronald de Bruin on the importance of research networks at LERU's Vice-Rectors meeting

On 9 June, COST Association Director Ronald de Bruin presented COST to LERU’s Vice-Rectors Research Policy Group. The meeting was hosted by Utrecht University and discussions took place on the next European Framework Program for Research and Innovation, the increased focus on the impact of research and the recent developments of the Brexit on EU R&D policies.

COST partners with the French National Research Agency in light of the 2017 edition of “Rencontres Recherche et Création”.

“Rencontres Recherche et Création”, also named “The Workshop of thought”, will take place within the Festival d’Avignon on 10-11 July, an annual arts event held every summer, since 1947. The session will gather artists from the Festival to dialogue along with researchers in human, social and cognitive sciences.

When trees start tweeting, it is not magic, it is science (COST Action STReESS)

There were a lot of impactful projects, publications and articles released by COST Action - STReESS (Studying Tree Responses to extreme Events: a Synthesis) during its four years networking programme with COST. However, tweeting trees became a definite highlight of the whole programme.

COST Action on Citizen Science to participate in the Week of Innovative Regions in Europe 2017 event (WIRE)

This year, the European Commission’s Week of Innovative Regions in Europe (WIRE) will be hosted by the Technical University of Košice (Slovakia). The conference is supported by the Directorate-General Research & Innovation, Spreading Excellence and Widening Participation Programme and is related to the 2017 Slovak EU Presidency.

European researchers tackle the global challenge of chronic kidney disease

Researchers from 22 European countries have set up PARENCHIMA, a network that will boost the use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) biomarkers in efficiently managing chronic kidney disease.

COST Info Sessions in Romania

On 4 May 2017, COST organised three info sessions for the Romanian research community in Bucharest, in cooperation with MEP Victor Negrescu. The sessions were held at the Polytechnics University of Bucharest, the National University of Political and Administrative Studies and the Romanian Council for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
