COST Training Schools disseminated the outcomes of activities which were part of COST Actions or provided intensive training on a new emerging subject. They were open to early-stage and senior researchers alike. As part of the Outreach Strategy, fifteen training schools took place between March and May 2009, on a variety of topics.
Demands for managing the life-time performance of structures in rapidly changing conditions and new issues have arisen in research, development and education activities.
The size of these challenges also means that young researchers need to be trained for international cooperation and to communicate latest achievements.
This course provided intensive training on research methods and recent achievements in the two merging subjects of modern structural engineering: the sustainability of constructions and the response of constructions to extreme conditions. The Training School targeted ESRs in civil engineering or architecture who have already developed studies and research dealing with sustainability and/or rehabilitation.
