Scientific Committee

The Scientific Committee is at the heart of the new scientific organisation of the COST Association and plays a leading role in the new Action Submission, Evaluation, Selection and Approval (SESA) procedure.

The Scientific Committee consists of renowned, independent European researchers. It is key to the overall supervision and quality control of procedures related to the submission, evaluation and selection of proposals and the monitoring and final assessment of COST Actions.

The CSO appoints the Committee's members.

Main responsibilities:

  • Selection of proposals: Identifying proposals that best respond to the COST mission and policies and meet research communities' needs; establishing a shortlist of proposals for the CSO approval;
  • Overall supervision and quality control of procedures for the evaluation of proposals and the monitoring and final assessment of COST Actions;
  • Global analysis of the outcomes and impact of ended Actions;
  • Scientific and technological advice for COST

The Scientific Committee replaces the former nine-domain structure, ensuring an open, bottom-up approach to COST Actions.
