The European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) is the biggest European conference dedicated to renewables and efficient energy use in Europe. Sessions organised by the European Commission and energy stakeholders focussed on sustainable energy issues, and debated new policy developments, best practices and sustainable energy ideas.
The EU has ambitious objectives in fighting climate change, of which the focus on sustainable energy is a key aspect. This year, the EU adopted the Clean Energy for All European package, which represents a major step in completing the Energy Union. An important dimension in the Energy Union strategy is the focus on research, innovation and competitiveness, which are paramount for solving today’s biggest societal challenges.
A wide range of COST Actions contribute directly to these ambitious Energy Union objectives. Within these COST Actions, researchers and innovators come together in pan-European networks of science and technology. COST funds networks on high-risk, innovative and emerging research themes, and has long been attracting research communities working on sustainable energy. Several of these Actions presented their work at the EUSEW:
- Chemistry of Smart Energy Carriers and Technologies
- Mining in the European Anthroposphere
- European Energy Poverty: Agenda Co-Creation and Knowledge Innovation
It leaves no doubt that the work done within these COST Actions are crucial assets in the wider research communities’ efforts in fighting climate change, and that they therefore actively contribute to the ambitious goals set out by the EU.
