70 new COST Actions approved

On 12 May 2023, COST’s governing board, the Committee of Senior Officials (CSO), confirmed the funding of 70 new COST Actions, that will officially start in Autumn 2023.

The 70 new COST Actions in figures:

19% of main proposers are young researchers

47% of main proposers are women

66% of the proposals feature participants from industry/SMEs

26% of main proposers come from an Inclusiveness Target Country (ITC)

77% of the future networks have attracted participants from all over the world

As an indicator of multidisciplinary of the new Actions, 54% of all Actions cover at least two OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) fields of science and technology, while 11% cover at least three fields.

Natural Sciences lead the way as the most represented field of science (represented in 49% of the Actions), followed by Social Sciences (27%), Engineering and Technology (27%), Agricultural Sciences (26%), Medical and Health Sciences (20%), and Humanities (19%).

The success rate for applications in this Open Call (OC-2022-1) was 18.7%.

On 9 June 2023 the new COST Actions, including all Memorandum’s of Understanding, will be available on the COST website and the first Management Committee meetings will start between September and November 2023.
