COST Connect | Data sharing

Data sharing is an important topic and question for most researchers and innovators. Data sharing is generally seen as a beneficial practice in science: it promotes reproducible research, can identify questionable research practices and allows reuse of data with potential gains in efficiency for the science system as a whole. Recently studies have also indicated that articles accompanied by data tend to be more cited and to have more uptake among non-academic stakeholders.

To recognise the importance of data sharing, funders and journals have increasingly introduced mandates for sharing data, although with some restrictions and options to protect sensitive data. Nonetheless, adoption of and adherence to data sharing practices is still mixed, with notable differences between scientific disciplines. Issues underlying this lack of adoption range from financial and legal to cultural and practical.

This COST Connect event is aimed to bring together COST Actions with a strong interest in or orientation towards sharing data. During the event, the participants will have the opportunity to present challenges and issues they face in data sharing and common data management, as well as discuss potential solutions and ways forward.

Attendance to this event is possible by invitation only.
