COST President, Prof. Paulo Ferrão noted the important milestone for COST – Brazil relations in promoting the participation of researchers across the Atlantic in COST Actions.
On Wednesday 25 November, the COST Association and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, jointly held a virtual awareness event aimed at encouraging researchers from Brazil to participate in COST activities. The 90 minute event was staged following discussions between the Mission of Brazil to the European Union and the COST Association and was livestreamed via both Zoom and YouTube to ensure ease of access for the research and innovation community by removing registration barriers.
During the event, the attendees were given an introduction to the COST programme and COST’s role in promoting and spreading excellence. Participants also learnt about the impact of the programme and how they could engage with Action networks, with practical advice, testimonies and a question and answer session. Brazil is an International Partner Country to COST and researchers and innovators from the country currently engage in 29 COST Actions.
The Head of the Office of International Affairs, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Bernardo Milano and the Director of Technological Promotion, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Achilles Zaluar, introduced the event, followed by the COST President, Prof. Paulo Ferrão.
“We, at COST, are proud to serve the global networking of researchers. Our bottom-up networks have shown to be fertile grounds for the region’s researchers to collaborate with each other as well as their peers from Europe and beyond. The connections and collaborations established via COST are important building blocks of science diplomacy and excellent science. These activities are characterised by a free circulation of both knowledge and people, which is why COST makes a valuable contribution to the global advancement of science.”
