Joint webinar - Getting involved as a COST Expert

26/02/2021

As a second edition of European research and innovation programmes evaluation procedure, LINO, the Lithuanian RDI Liaison Office together with ELO, the Estonian Liaison Office for EU RTD organised a  joint webinar  with COST this 23 February on Getting involved as a COST Expert. The event aimed to inform and further encourage ITC researchers about the opportunity of becoming a COST expert.

Getting the chance to act as an evaluator is a great boost for researchers’ career growth. It helps gaining insight into the latest developments and trends of a scientific field as well as learning more about what makes a proposal ‘excellent’. The webinar was the occasion to underline the various possibilities offered by COST specifically around the evaluation procedures and the possibilities to contribute as evaluators.

Prof Vilmante Liubiniené from Lithuania and Katrin Kello, National Contact Point from Estonia, shared their personal experiences and provided insights into their respective roles as former experts. “I was a member of a COST Action, invited to fill-in the user profile, agreed to be in the COST database. Then I forgot about it. Three years later I got an invitation to sit as expert evaluator. I accepted it as I am always looking for new challenges. The fantastic evaluators’ guide, and the short online course gave a practical help.” said Prof Vilmante Liubiniené.

The event achieved 450 registrations from more than 43 countries, out of which about 15% were non COST countries. The large majority of the audience stated that they would or are already being registered in COST expert database.
