COST country focus: Croatia
Croatia has been an independent COST member since 1992 and was previously a member as part of then Yugoslavia since 1971. It was the host of the COST Ministerial Council in 2003, which took place in Dubrovnik.
The national COST Office is hosted by the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports.
Croatia has participated to date in 219 Actions and is Action Chair for 2 of these in the BMBS and CMST Domains. Through the Actions which it chairs, Croatia has improved understanding, monitoring and control of lipid peroxidation in medicine and related biosciences and technologies as well as promoted research on the biomineralisation processes of selected land, freshwater and marine species for both environmental biomonitoring and as a source of new biomimetic strategies and materials.
Through the COST Actions which Croatia has been involved in, the country has contributed to sustainable urban development and sustainable forest management as well as studying language impairment in a multilingual society. Furthermore, the traffic monitoring and analysis as well as its future applications has been an area which Croatia has participated in as well as measuring the impact of climate change on European agriculture.
This country focus fits in a summer series in which we visit each COST country in alphabetical order to highlight its achievements in the COST Programme.
