A New COST Success Story: Green Chemistry and Cooperation with African Countries

Green chemistry – the creation of sustainable processes to prevent the creation of hazardous waste – is one of the answers to the worldwide demand for environmentally friendly chemical processes and cost-effective approaches to pollution prevention. This new and important scientific frontier is addressed by a number of COST Actions.

The COST Committee of Senior Officials (CSO at its meeting at the end of June 2007 approved the Contribution of COST to the consultation on the Commission Green Paper on "The ERA: New Perspectives", entitled "The role of COST in the European Research Area" .

Tribology COST Action Brings Reduction in Fuel Consumption

The results of COST Action 532 were reported on at the International Tribology Conference ECOTRIEB 2007 held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, from 12 to 15 June 2007. The COST Action contributed jointly with the EUREKA ENIWEP (European Network for Industrial Wear Prevention) Umbrella also dealing with friction control and industrial wear prevention.

COST in Italy

Professor Francesco Fedi, President of the COST Committee of Senior Officials, was invited to open the Workshop on Nanotechnologies held on the 6th of June 2007 at the University of L’Aquila. Sponsored by internal funds of the University, the Workshops was a unique opportunity for scholars from a variety of disciplines and professional experiences to discuss work in progress in the various fields of Nanotechnologies.

COST: Response to the First Open Call 2007

For the second time, the COST Open Call was successful in attracting a large response from a wide spectrum of the European scientific community. There were 406 eligible (pre-) proposals. The number of non eligible proposals was very low (< 20) as in the on-line submission tool an interlock tool minimized potential error and /or omission.
