COST country focus: Switzerland
Switzerland has been a COST country for forty years, joining at the start in 1971. The national COST Office is hosted by the State Secretariat for Education and Research.

To date, Switzerland has participated in just over 700 COST Actions and is Action Chair for 35 of these.
Through the Actions which it chairs, Switzerland has cooperated in preventing honeybee extinction in Europe, establishing a European network on quality of experience in multimedia systems and services, modeling the performance of timber structures, as well as advancing the integrated monitoring of trace gas exchange between biosphere and atmosphere.
Through the COST Actions in which Switzerland has been involved, the country has contributed to identifying Europe's scope for peacekeeping operations, tackling inflammation in brain disease, modeling and measuring advanced photonic telecommunications components, addressing new drugs for neglected diseases and many more themes under every COST Domain.
We can only present you here with a snapshot of all the Actions which Switzerland is involved in. Comprehensive information on all the COST Actions which Slwitzerland both chairs and participates in can be found on the new COST country page.
This country focus fits in a summer series in which we visit each COST country in alphabetical order to highlight its achievements in the COST Programme.
