COST country focus: Sweden

Joining COST in 1971, Sweden has been a member of COST for its full forty year history.

Sweden

Having been a part of over 650 COST Actions over the past four decades, Sweden has made significant contributions to European science and research.

A few of these areas have been in the area of the study of mammary gland development, function and cancer, the evaluation of European labour market programs, understanding chemistry in astronomical environments as well as addressing the chemistry of metals in medicine.

Sweden chairs 12 Actions, contributing to the exploration and development of a European arena for cross-boundary, integrated knowledge and know-how on complex urban problems, the establishment of a European network of sites for forest ecosystem and landscape research of relevance to sustainable forest management, as well as an increase of the fundamental understanding of the chemistry occurring at surfaces and interfaces.

The huge variety of themes reflects Sweden's participation across all COST's Domains.

Comprehensive information on all the COST Actions which Sweden both chairs and participates in can be found on the new COST country page.

This country focus fits in a summer series in which we visit each COST country in alphabetical order to highlight its achievements in the COST Programme.
