COST country focus: Spain
Spain became a COST county in 1971 and has been a member for its entire forty year history. The national COST Office is hosted by the Ministry of Science and Innovation.

Up to today, Spain has participated in just over 792 COST Actions and is Action Chair for 21 of these.
Through the Actions which it chairs, Spain has cooperated in coordinating the European studies concerning the oceanographic data exploitation of the European Space Agency Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) satellite mission, establishing a network of researchers to co-operate on the improvement of knowledge on fish reproduction, as well as providing new insights into interactions between work, family and public policies.
Within the COST Actions that Spain participates in, the country has contributed to assessing breast cancer risk associated to genetic variants, strengthening the protection of human rights worldwide, molecular targeting and drug design in neurological and bacterial diseases, and fighting chronic obstructive pulmonary disease to name but a few.
Comprehensive information on all the COST Actions which Spain both chairs and participates in can be found on the new COST country page.
This country focus fits in a summer series in which we visit each COST country in alphabetical order to highlight its achievements in the COST Programme.
