COST Information Day in Serbia
Professor Francesco Fedi, President of the COST Committee of Senior Officials (CSO), participated in the COST INFORMATION DAY in Beograd organized by the Serbian National Coordinator Professor Biljana Stojanovic on 14 March 2007. Professor Fedi was accompanied by Dr. Martin Grabert, Director of the COST Office and by Dr. Kimmo Peippo, Head of the COST Secretariat.
On 13 March Professor Fedi met Dr. Alexandar Popovic, Minister of Science and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Serbia, and visited the Institute Mihailo Pupin, where Professor Sanja Vranes, Scientific Director, illustrated the activities of the Institute.
On 14 March, after the welcome address to an audience, composed of some 200 representatives of the Serbian scientific community, of Minister Popovic and of Professor Branko Kovacevic, Rector of the University of Belgrade, Dr. Ivan Videnovic, Assistant Minister for International S&T cooperation, illustrated the “International S&T Cooperation in Serbia” and Professor Fedi the “ Past, Present and Future of COST”. After the break, Dr. Grabert presented “Open Call and Assessment of Proposals for New Actions and COST Strategy for Neighboring Countries and non-COST Countries”, Dr. Hans Stødkilde-Jørgensen, COST DC BMBS Chair, “Interdisciplinar adding to the COST profile” and Professor Stojanovic the “Serbian COST Experience”.
A session devoted to the presentation by Serbian Scientists of their experience in the participation in COST Actions and to questions and answers with the Serbian scientific community followed.
At the end of the COST INFORMATION DAY Professor Fedi congratulated the organizers for the success of the event and encouraged the Serbian scientific community to maintain and possibly increase the fruitful participation in COST activities.
