COST country focus: Netherlands

Joining COST in 1971, the Netherlands has been a member of COST for its full forty year history. The national COST Office is hosted by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.

The Netherlands

Having been a part of almost 700 COST Actions in the past forty years, the Netherlands has made significant contributions to European science and research.

Chairing 39 Actions, the Netherlands has participated in finding effective solutions to reduce the impact of waste arising from the papermaking process, improving the quality of existing urban building envelopes as well as investigating and managing the impacts of marine sand gravel extraction and use.

Furthermore, through the COST Actions in which the Netherlands has participated, it has contributed to the welfare of fish in European aquaculture, methods for the design and evaluation of multi-service telecommunication networks, and reforming social protection systems in Europe.

Active across all COST's Domains, the contributions listed here can only give a snapshot of its involvement. More information on all the COST Actions which the Netherlands both chairs and participates in can be found on the new COST country page.

This country focus fits in a summer series in which we visit each COST country in alphabetical order to highlight its achievements in the COST Programme.
