COST country focus: Latvia
After receiving observer status in 1998, Latvia become a full member of COST in 1999. The national COST Office in Latvia is hosted by the Ministry of Education and Science.

Latvia participates in 149 COST Actions and is active in every COST Domain. Latvia chairs one COST Action in the FPS Domain whose main objective is to generate new knowledge on the micro- and nanostructure of paper making fibbers, and the properties required for the efficient and sustainable use of fibbers in traditional, advanced and future products.
Through the COST Actions within which Latvia is involved, Latvia has contributed to the optimal management of wastewater systems, sustainable low-input cereal production and the investigation into biometrics for identity documents and smart cards, to name but a few.
Further information on all the COST Actions which Latvia participates in can be found on the new COST country page.
This country focus fits in a summer series in which we visit each COST country in alphabetical order to highlight its achievements in the COST Programme.
