Having been a part of over 780 COST Actions in the past forty years, Italy has made significant contributions to European science and research. Chairing 56 Actions, Italy has participated in the creation of a Virtual Centre for Medieval Studies, the study of mammary gland function in normal and disease conditions to generate new therapeutics protocols, as well as the development of methods and equipment for the protection of artwork and antiquities.

Furthermore, through the COST Actions in which Italy has participated, it has contributed to freight transport logistics, the coding and transmission of high definition television signals and the analysis of organic micro-pollutants in water.

The huge variety of themes reflects Italy's participation across all COST's Domains can be seen on the new COST country page.

This country focus fits in a summer series in which we visit each COST country in alphabetical order to highlight its achievements in the COST Programme.
