Let’s talk climate change!
Following the debates held at COP15 in December 2009, COST science officers discuss the impacts of climate change and the path towards sustainable development on the world’s first Internet broadcaster dedicated entirely to climate change issues.

COST goes live on Climate Change TV, where Dr Carine Petit, Senior Science Officer for Natural Sciences, and Dr Albino Maggio, Science Officer for Food and Agriculture, examine how climate change-related research priorities should be supported by funding agencies. They tackle the alarming issues behind food security and outline how COST is shaping a way forward. Parts of these solutions are heavily dependent on the role that research investments will play.
Dr Carine Petit provides examples explaining how the recently increasing sources of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are responsible for triggering cascade effects on climate change and global warming. Sustainability plays a key role in mitigating this process, and it is promoted by COST-funded Actions that organise strategic initiatives and elaborate research and policy recommendations to tackle climate change.
Another hot debate is how Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) can contribute to food security. Dr Albino Maggio explains how COST is active not only in supporting networks of scientists, but also in cross-topic exploratory workshops to predict future trends. In particular, COST’s contribution to integrate information and maximise synergies across several scientific fields plays a key role in the global fight against climate change.
