Calling for a bottom-up approach towards a global forest governance
At a high level conference in the European Parliament - celebrating the 2011 International Year of Forests - distinguished speakers such as H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, Chris Vanden Bilcke, Head of UNEP Brussels and Dr Sjur Baardsen, Chair of the COST FPS Domain focused on sustainable management, conservation and development of forests in Europe and worldwide against climate change.

Slovenia has been an independent COST member since 1992 and was previously a member as part of then Yugoslavia since 1971. Both the Slovenian Research Agency (SRA) and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology of the Republic of Slovenia (MHEST) are involved in COST.

International Literacy Day
8 September 2011 is the International Day of Literacy. UNESCO uses this day to remind the international community of the status of literacy and adult learning globally. Currently, one in five adults is still not literate.
