COST Training Schools disseminated the outcomes of activities which were part of COST Actions or provided intensive training on a new emerging subject. They were open to early-stage and senior researchers alike. As part of the Outreach Strategy, fifteen training schools took place between March and May 2009, on a variety of topics.

COST Action IE 0601 WoodCultHer brought together young and more experienced researchers, conservators and other scientists working in the multidisciplinary field of wood science. This training school focused on the main wood-destroying organisms, both insects and fungi which damage wooden cultural heritage, artworks and timber constructions.

The course also looked at selected species of mould found on historic wooden objects. An excursion to a historic farmhouse in Eastern Hamburg also took place, giving the students hand-on experience in the field.
