With the aim of opening collaboration with the fuel and gas industry, COST Action CM0901 'Detailed chemical kinetic models for cleaner combustion' organised an industrial workshop - in collaboration with Shell - to present its focus on cleaner engines and gas turbines.
The workshop presented discussions on the following topics:
- Kinetic modelling for future fuels
- Kinetics in Industry
- Kinetic modelling in process safety
- Writing and reduction of detailed combustion models, including elementary steps rate constants determination
- The GDF-Suez view of the use of chemical kinetics to solved industrial problems
- Experimental investigation of the gas-phase reactions of oxygenated reactants (biofuel) and of soot formation
- Temperature and pressure dependence of laminar burning velocities based on modelling and experiments
The following hot topics were also discussed:
- More accurate and better validated detailed kinetic models in industrial applications
- Pyrolysis sub-mechanisms
- Detailed kinetic models of common octane and cetane boosting additives
- Soot/PAH formation/oxidation
- Laminar burning velocity at elevated conditions
- Better understanding of RON/MON for SI engines
- Auto-Ignition of fuels and biofuels in engines at realistic conditions
- Heterogenous reactions
- Process safety
