The Future Needs of the Paper Industry

This exploratory workshop - organised as a part of European Paper Week - provided a two way forum to ‘kick start’ the research process whilst engaging industrial partners from the outset and introducing early stage researchers to the Pulp, Paper & Board Industry.
The workshop addressed the radical development needed to help papermaking in Western Europe survive in the 21st Century business climate and to realise the full potential sustainability of paper as a product and an industry.
Key questions addressed included:
- ‘What research is needed in order to make the paper industry more sustainable (in the commonest interpretation which includes Economic, environmental and Social sustainability)?’
- ‘What could COST do to encourage and enhance this research?’
