COST Training Schools disseminated the outcomes of activities which were part of COST Actions or provided intensive training on a new emerging subject. They were open to early-stage and senior researchers alike. As part of the Outreach Strategy, fifteen training schools took place between March and May 2009, on a variety of topics.

Genomics is a cutting edge field of biological science where Europe needs to maintain a competitive edge. New advances in genomics are opening doors to applications for improving plant protection strategies against pests and pathogens. Harnessing this technology and focusing it on plant protection is critical to delivering a sustainable agricultural future.

Because genomics technology is developing at such a rapid speed, training in the basics is becoming essential to biological science training. Students gained practical expertise in this technology.

And, because the modules used real-life model organisms, this benefited their actual research efforts and give them the opportunity to network with both leaders in the European genomics arena and next-generation of scientists in this field.
