Networks of Science and Technology: a COST exhibition

COST held an exhibition in the European Parliament, Brussels, showcasing the 'networks of science and technology' that COST Actions have been creating across Europe.

With the aim of making science available to society, COST is committed to bringing the results of research carried out within its Actions closer to policy-makers, and highlight the contribution that collaborative networking activities make towards a more innovative European Research Area.

The host of this exhibition, Pilar del Castillo Vera MEP, had asked COST to highlight its contribution to society and, in particular, to the human and intellectual capital it has leveraged. Aside from the host, speeches at the opening of the exhibition were provided by:

• Dr Ángeles Rodríguez-Peña, President of the COST Committee of Senior Officials
• Jerzy Buzek, President of the European Parliament
• Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science

Through its openness, COST has progressively and constructively contributed to the inclusion of high quality researchers all over Europe including new EU members and smaller countries. It supports scientific networks allowing the connection between both young and experienced European scientists, big and small industries, international organisations, institutions and other stakeholders; thereby bringing together the advances and contributions which will build a more innovative Europe, both within and beyond its borders.

The societal impact of COST Actions and their relevance for policy-making were highlighted through an interactive exhibition that encouraged Members of the European Parliament, Parliamentary staff, and key stakeholders to familiarise themselves with the valuable contribution produced by COST Actions in science and research.
