In October 2010, the European Commission published its communication on launching the Innovation Union, a Europe 2020 flagship initiative aimed at promoting the EU’s competitiveness through the development of European innovation. The implementation of this initiative under the umbrella of the Europe 2020 strategy started under the Hungarian Presidency and opens a new chapter in this field.
At this COST Seminar, László Szendrödi, Counsellor for Sciences and Technologies at the Permanent Representation of Hungary to the European Union, provided an update on the Hungarian Presidency’s research and innovation priorities in finding solutions to the challenges facing Europe today. He focussed on how to create more favourable framework conditions and a productive working environment in Europe while enabling more research, development and innovation and cutting red tape.
The fact that the seminar took place only a few days after the European Commission opened the public consultation on a Green Paper, which proposes major changes to EU research and innovation funding, guaranteed a particularly lively debate after Mr Szendrödi’s presentation.
