COST Training School: Environmental Applications of TiO² photocatalysis

Location University of Oulu, Finland
Date 04 - 08 May 2009
Calendar file .vcs  .ics

COST Training Schools disseminated the outcomes of activities which were part of COST Actions or provided intensive training on a new emerging subject. They were open to early-stage and senior researchers alike. As part of the Outreach Strategy, fifteen training schools took place between March and May 2009, on a variety of topics.

Photocatalytic reactions, such as photosynthesis, constitute the basis of life on earth. Extensive research has already been conducted on the photocatalytic effects of certain solids such as titanium dioxide.

The use of photocatalysis in hydrogen production has also gained increased interest. Material design plays a crucial role in this development work too. This training school highlighted new methods to produce hydrogen from different biomaterials and forms of waste. An international team of speakers, active in the field of TiO2 photocatalysis and TiO2 materials science and engineering communicated their knowledge to students.
