Biofilms: Friend or Foe?

Researchers and industry representatives from different disciplines such as biochemistry, engineering, microbiology, physics, computer science and surface science were brought together in order to integrate their contribution and thereby to increase the understanding of biofilm development and to explore the potential beneficial applications of biofims.

This event was part of COST's year-long celebration of the International Year of Chemistry.

The workshop focused on cell signalling (within a biofilm and cross-kingdom interactions) and on novel biotech and bioengineering applications (medical, environmental, agricultural and industrial). It promoted the need to form a new collaborative network in the field of biofilms.

Invited speakers

Stakeholders involved in this event included universities, research institutes, both COST and non-COST participants, representatives of the agri-food, chemical and pharmaceutical industry as well as medical doctors.
