Melae joined COST in May 2008. She is the Science Officer for the Forests, their Products and Services Domain and manages COST’s Reciprocal Agreements with Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
Melae studied biochemistry and molecular biology then technology management before working in business development roles in two different research institutes covering a wide range of disciplines. More recently, she was New Zealand’s inaugural Science Counsellor to the European Union. In this role, she was tasked with identifying and resolving impediments to international research cooperation. Her responsibilities include negotiating international research cooperation agreements and establishing researcher networking programmes.
