This initiative aims at underlining COST’s valuable role in the European Research Area (ERA), as it has been recognised throughout the years by consecutive reviews and assessments – including the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) mid-term evaluation of COST in 2010.

Sheep or goat: can you tell the difference?

Did you know that in regard to many diseases, it has been considered for some time that goats are similar to sheep, and that results acquired from sheep were applicable to goats? For instance, for many years, the registration of anthelmintic drugs (drugs that expel parasitic worms – helminths – from the body) did not discriminate between the two hosts. Drugs that were registered for sheep could automatically be prescribed to goats.

Maintaining road pavements to improve Europe's road safety

The UN Road Safety Collaboration has developed a Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020, which is officially launched on 11 May 2011. COST Action 354, ‘Performance Indicators for Road Pavements’, has been working towards a common set of indicators and a tool to manage these, boosting both the potential safety and management of the European road network across Europe.
