FPS COST Action E54
Characterisation of the fine structure and properties of papermaking fibres using new technologies

The main objective of the Action is to generate new knowledge on the micro- and nanostructure of papermaking fibres and properties required for the efficient and sustainable use of fibres in traditional, advanced and future products. Furthermore, specific attention will be paid to the influence of the pulping processes (i.e. for chemical and mechanical pulps) and fibre treatment on the fine structure and composition of different papermaking fibres. Those aspects are of great interest for the theoretical wood science as well as for the pulp and paper industry.

The application of new technologies such as microsystem technology will provide important tools in order to achieve the goals of the Action. A further important objective is to create a platform for interaction between microsystem technology developers and paper scientists in Europe and thus provide a good transfer of knowledge between those groups.
