40 years of ‘Networks of Science and Technology’

Networks of Science and Technology

COST has marked its 40th anniversary with a successful exhibition at the European Parliament in Brussels. In 1971, COST was founded by countries willing to establish cooperation in the fields of science and technology. With the recent adoption of an updated mission and strategy to shape its future, COST has come a long way - evolving through the years and staying faithful to its original mission statement.

World Cancer Day

Discover how COST Actions are contributing to the fight against cancer. 4 February is World Cancer Day. This year’s theme ‘Together it is possible’ reminds us that we all need to take responsibility for reducing the burden of this disease. Only together will we be able to reduce premature deaths from cancer and other Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) by 25 % by 2025. The global campaign is led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) with the support of the World Health Organization (WHO). Above all, this day aims to raise awareness about cancer prevention and control on a global scale.

EuroSchool on ‘Intermetallic Compounds in Catalysis’

A training school on ‘Intermetallic Compounds in Catalysis’ will take place in the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids, Dresden, Germany, from 22 to 27 April 2012. This Training School is a joint initiative by COST Action CM0904 ‘Network for intermetallic compounds as catalysts for steam reforming of methanol (IMC-SRM)’ and the European C-MAC Consortium.

European Privacy and Data Protection Day

The Council of Europe has chosen 28 January as European Privacy and Data Protection Day. This day celebrates privacy and the autonomy of the individual – and gives us the opportunity to engage as citizens in timely debates of today's societies and to reflect on the issue of data protection and privacy. The day is aimed at giving European citizens the chance to understand what their rights are in respect of the collection and processing of their personal data; and also to increase awareness of the risks associated with the illegal mishandling and unfair processing of their personal data.
